Pan Speed FC Build Update #7 - Final

I am 90% ready to call this complete. Mounted on the DRB tonight.

Drift Style

What is RC Drift Style anyway? My bodies are a mix of styles that somehow work together.

My RX-7 started as an off the shelf body. I used to think it was cool. But things got out of control.

Then it received some wide fenders, then some graphics and now it runs crazy wheels and ride height. I'll try to pump the wheels just a little more to get the right gap. Will this effect handling? probably. but the TA-06 is pretty forgiving. It's totally a style choice for me. Performance... well that's why I have another chassis.

Parts Overdose

Ok, Today I got my latest FIX! Rocker arms and front stiffener.

Also some 44mm Overdose Universal Drive shafts and Dog-bones. These serve two purposes. 1, They allow me to run wicked camber. 9degrees up front and 7 degrees in the rear. 2. The extended thread on the shaft also allow the fitment of the large spacers you see on the hub. Normal hub spacer is 5mm. These are 8mm (+3mm) and I'm running a 1mm washer (=+4mm) +12 offsett rims (9mm over standard =+13mm each side) = a wide fat machine that oozes style. Follow the link to see the RX-7

Anyway. the chassis is basically complete. There are still things I could do, like servo mounts and belt tensioner in blue alloy. body posts etc. but for me this has been so expensive I have to stop.

My TA-06 has only a few things remaining from the original kit. (rear gearbox housing and drive shaft, suspension shafts and bearings) I've started to reassemble the original. It doesn't need much to have a second car.

It's easy to Overdose. These look so good. You can't stop. So the chassis is Tamiya? No, Suspension is Tamiya.

The chassis is a Tech Racing Drift Spec Chassis with RC Square and Overdose full modifications. Touches of Xray, Kazama, RC926, Kawada and Eagle Racing link these together.

Keyence ESC and Motor and Sanwa controls.

Sometimes it looks like this

But it slowly comes back together.

Overdose, Steering for TA-06, 8-8 Castor C-Hub Set, Front Stiffener and Bell-Crank rocker arm set fit perfectly.

The front is sooo smooth. Front ride height had dropped due to the position of the rocker but a change to preload on the spring should see it corrected.

I will need to reset everything this week.

I also had a little click click click from the front one way. but thats now gone. that little extra angle was needed.

Max Seven

Lights on! with the Shakotan RX-7

I repaired the rear muffler and the destruction continues

Today I ran the seven on the zero six. I started with silver wheels but I ended with gold for a slight accent.

I've managed to get the car dialed in and I had a lot of fun today.

I'll have a video coming in time. Quiet day. Some interesting angles. Dope!

What do you think?

Wider wheel spacers???

Max Test Day

Testing... Testing.. Tsunami Spec Yokomo DRB and Tamiya TA-06

Today was more about trying to get the TA-06 to feel a little more like my awesome DRB.

I'll say I got pretty close. But I also tuned the DRB. It's now more sedate but mid-corner is even more controllable. Off-throttle stability is up!

Kazama Premium tyres add a slight bite to this chassis. Grip is slightly up when I use them. These are Spice TE-37 Wheels +9 all round.

My Yokomo DRB has Overdose 8-8 front C hubs and BD-5 rear hubs. Those and the Yokomo Team Suzuki long springs are the only changes over stock.

I added a 0.5 mm anti-squat rear plate and a 0.5 mm kick up plate on the front. In the end this turned out to be a little less nervous in off throttle transitions. Of course there was also an ever so minor adjustment to rear spring settings.

Rear 1.8x FCD gear set is a good setting.

Blurry pic... sorry.

I've reverted to using 3300 ni-mh on this chassis for the time being until Yokomo gets their production in order. It will use a 4200 lipo when they are available. More for cost rather than anything.
When the small size Lipo are in this chassis, it's even better.

With the Tech Drift Spec Chassis on the TA-06, it required a change to the small battery to get the layout I wanted.

It's really looking good.

New items are a Kawada low friction belt. and I'm playing with gear ratios.

I'm not running full camber yet. Just waiting for a small part so I can fit the 44mm front bones. At the moment camber is 7:F and 5:R. Should be 9:F and 7:R ... next time

This chassis has a CS ratio of almost 2.2 which makes it a tricky machine. The change of direction is incredibly fast. But today I have the chassis steering itself quite well and smaller inputs are required to get more angle or less angle as required.

I found with less camber, these RC926 tyres worked slightly better, but I'll be getting the spicey tyres back on soon.

Settings Setting Settings...

It all takes time to be perfect.

Max Test Night

 I like reflections...

And blurry action. A night out

JZX still everywhere. GPX and Zeon VDF and DRB, TA-06 and more.

AKB-san not the big wing... This is sometimes an issue at max one. the rear overhang under the expressway is a good target.

in Action.

I was trying to get some kind of setting on the drift package. It took all night, but I got there. Almost.

The chassis seems ok, but the transmitter/speed controler seems a bit... odd.

Anyway... hopefully we will get there.

Pan Speed FC Build Update #6

Colours are ON! I think this should get some comments once it's finished.

Colours are red->orange faded flames and pan speed logos
Shadows are gun metal
Body colour is tamiya yellow backed with transparent orange and yellow then white

Smoke windows

Getting there. a quick snap...

Light buckets will take a little while longer. I want to run double round lights which means custom buckets.
I have the Samurai FC ones but they don't look good. I am using the rears however. I have tinted the tail lights red so they look great!

Hubba Bubba

I decided to complete the RE-Xtreme demo chassis 100%. Rear hubs replace the ugly plastic items on bot TA-06 and DRB

These Overdose Rear Hubs complete the rear of the Tamiya TA-06. 0 degree toe in.

Overdose design is always appealing. better access for maintenance of the rear shafts too.
Now I just have the front stiffener outstanding.

These are the Yokomo items for the DRB. 0 degree toe in here also. rear of the DRb already runs 3.5 degree. Yokomo now share a lot of components across their range. BD5 hubs fit DR and DIB like many other components.

These have nice access hole to flush bearings, but I think some gunge might get in there too.

In any case these complete the DRB chassis. Nothing else I want to do on it. Bling Bling.

Pan Speed FC Build Update #5

Getting closer!!

Masks were not so good, so I'll have a bit of cleanup before the yellow is applied.

But OMG! it's going to be awesome!!!

Sometimes, the extra effort makes all the difference. Driver...? Maybe I'll make a mini Asamoto-san!
