RE-Xtreme TA-06 PRO Tsunami Spec Phase 2.2 - SOLD

Here is the presentation of my amazing TA-06. Not only does it look good. It is an incredible performer.

SOLD

For a begginner looking to step up, and wanting the best of the best in a single purchace. Or a Tamiya drifter who until now has only had the VDF as their only option, this chassis takes the Tamiya item and raises the bar.

When I first tried the TA-06, it was incredible with only the Overdose steering and C Hubs, But I didn't want to have a 1.3 or 1.5 FCD machine. I wanted the crazy style of 2.2. With the standard Tamiya components you can really only get to about 1.5 FCD.

As I became familiar with the TA-06 settings which are extremely forgiving. the chassis was performing well. My initial target was asphalt. But as I began spending more and more time on Carpet. I wasn't enjoying the plastic tub of the base car.

The opportunity arose to go for this drift spec carbon chassis conversion and that changed everything, what was already great, became amazing.

The balance on this is very nice. The center of the chassis allows for a lot of different configurations. Especially with short batteries. I was using a small patch of velcro to help an already secure centre section.

Parts from Tamiya, Tech Racing, RC-Square and Overdose eventually replaced ALL components. About the only real TA-06 original parts include the gearbox housing and idler gears.

I love the chassis design also. It's tribal, wave is ultra cool!

The dry carbon finish is awesome!  I'll finish the story here and leave you to peruse the final shots of the bare chassis. With the right components, the result is amazing.

Wild Rusty

Lets have a rough look at Wild Rusty.

I didn't spend long on this. It really was a rush job in an hour or so.Driver is a Wild Willy II driver set. Cost is about $5

Servo is high tec. cheapest available. I was just lucky the blue matches the chassis. I had originally planned to mount the servo inside the body of the driver, that's why there's a bug cutout in the back.

But mounting troubles led me to simply locate the servo off the chassis and use a weak bell-crank to operate it.

I had already started to hollow out the head, so it was pretty easy to make a little adjustment to the servo horn.

The driver has a post mounted to the arm. It's in a favourable spot for the drb. First mounting with a tapping screw and plastic post was not secure, so I used metal mount and spacers to get the height I needed.

So there it sits with uncleaned up wired looking pretty ugly. I later added the stickers for visibility.

But the chassis needs a clean up.

I have a small plan for another channel so stay tuned for the super Wild Rust.

ps. please excuse the poor photos...

Yokomo DRB versions

I'm often asked about the Drb Versions, There are a few variations and options. Here is basic explanation.

Most of the changes are associated with four things.
1. the motor Mount and Bridge known as the Hyper Drive
2. the Chassis Material.
3. the Chassis Design.
4. the Aluminum color

1. Hyper Drive Bridge and Motor Mount.

The original release was the Yokomo Drift Package DRB in June 2010

This first version has since been discontinued. The thin bridge bar that connects the steering to the chassis midpoint doesn't connect to the motor mount. The chassis was considered a little too flexible and some binding on the front components is a very slight possibility.
The screw used to hold the top pulley wears out quickly therefore destroying bearings in the process.
Either sleeve this bearing or wait for bearing failure.

Not the rear of the bridge bar has 3 holes use to control chassis flex. center only or two in the outer can change the flexibility of the chassis.

Some options such as the Vertex and Overdose Chassis still require this old bridge bar.

New and current DRB Hyper Drive Special Bridge Bar is thicker and mounts directly to the motor mount.

Aluminum bridge bar bolts directly to the motor mount with no gap. this creates a solid front structure.
Also the top pulley is now mounted on a real shaft to avoid bearing collapse.

The SSG Chassis Kit was introduced as an interim that included the new bridge and a new chassis material... we will check that is next.

2. Chassis Material

DRB Chassis is NOT carbon. It is a graphite chassis with a carbon look outer layer.
I think the stock one should be called CSG or Carbon Surface Graphite.

The Optional "SSG" version is the same black graphite centre with a Silver Surface Carbon look
That is all.

The SSG Conversion chassis Kit was introduced as an interim that included the new bridge and this SSG carbon chassis of the broad flat design which is quite stiff...

3. Chassis Design

The DRB chassis now has two versions. the Normal chassis is a wide flat stiff design that is great for using the suspension to control the car but settings have to be "right".  Normal chassis spur clearance is around 84 and with Kazama Spacer is 88.

The newest option is the Drift Package DRB Hyper Drive High Traction (HT) chassis shown above. It is available in Carbon or SSG.
It includes a few benefits.

Rear flex is higher.
A cut out for motor cooling is included.
A cut out for Spur clearance is included up to 91T 48P is ok.
The Upper desk includes an extra set of holes for a rear belt stabiliser gear. Useful when running FCD2.0, it keeps the belt further apart.

This HT chassis is very similar to the DIB.

4. Alloy Color

The DRB Aluminium parts are quite extensive. They also had a black bridge bar option.

The red and black carbon Drift Package DRB  Red version
The red and Silver SSG  Drift Package DRB Hyper Drive High Traction Red Version.

The red alloy HT versions were a limited release of 100 items.

All Sold out very quickly.

But red parts are readily available to build your own.

Options

Overdose Silver Carbon Chassis (with steering and motor mount options)
Vertex red or Blue Alloy chassis (with motor mount options)
Kazama motor mount option.

In my opinion a great, easily serviceable high end chassis.
Designed originally from the world champion BD5 1/10 touring race chassis.

Samurai 86 "STREET JACK"

I know everyone is 86'd out. But before I went to destroy the car at the track, I did get some outdoor shots.

I usually run on carpet at MAX ONE.

But in August WELD / OVERDOSE in association with MAX ONE and DRIFT MAX Akihabara will be attacking the street in Oi Town. "STREET JACK" 26 August 2012.

They are going to set up two outdoor tracks, one carpet and one asphalt. So the color on the 86 may see the sun yet.

Even without my polarising filter on the camera. There is enough depth in the clear and transparent clear to see the full effect of the chrome backing.

Even some of the imperfections in the Transparent RED simply soak up the sun. No problem.

The ol' Hachi turned out ok in the end. Makes me want to build another for some tandem...

Gold looks good! but that blue and black wheel image in all the magazines is amazing.

Or perhaps a modern Toyota TRD image. Silver White, Orange and Red.

" Wild Rusty " at the wheel.

I like the reflections in this shot.
