Rajicon Crazy - Long Wheelbase

When I first saw this chassis a few weeks ago in Super Rajicon's display case, I thought what chassis is that?

Based on OTA-R31 components. This is an extended wheelbase machine for the 4 door lovers and was a prototype only. When you visit Japanese tracks, a large majority of rc bodies are either Chaser / Mark II / Tourer V or Silvia S13/4/5/180/sil80 or AE86. There is a clear definition. I am definitely in the minority running RX7s

This chassis focusses on the larger 4 door 1/10 drifter. The extra length gives the impression of a truly bigger car. While this may be more realistic. What it does do, it hamper the line that you are going to drift on.

If you run something like this at a small track like Super Rajicon's own tiny track you will probably block the corner and require more space for sure. The body has been spliced for length but street Jam are bringing out a new 4 door lexus and a new "ML" chassis for the Zeon and OTA-R3 style chassis. They will be 275-290mm adjustable. Interesting times ahead.

The focus of drift for many in Japan is not competition. Running one corner in a comp is simply not as satisfying as five hours of tandem or sextuplet drift. The thirst for realism continues as bodies, body-kits, wheels and more components help create these working replicas of reality.

Lights, Camera, MAXion

 OK, here is the action from Wednesday! After MY battery died of course. It's the only time I can take pics.

There is a lot of track detail at Max One. It adds to the realism, but it also means I have to take a million shots to get one that doesn't have much "scenery". But it sometimes makes it better.

You also can't use Auto-focus here for the same reason and it's quite dark inside. So you have to rely on low depth for field for bright shots and my camera is not up to that. Manual focus is also a lucky shot scenario.

But some of them turned out OK. Can you see my RE-Xtreme sticker on this car? There's a lot of travelling in this body. All the windows are covered by share stickers. Mine is on the front window. last time I saw this body it was new and relatively, sticker-less.

This one is filling up also.

This is our usual scene. Sometimes close.

Sometimes closer.

But if you fall behind, you have to take the straight dangerous line under the bridge... be careful!

But it is the fast line...  But the slow line is best and drama free.

Always in the mix.

Running behind or in front.

 You can get some great battles.

TA-05 VDF on this chassis was lurking today.

A new build with yokomo light buckets.

Simple.

Unfortunately I had to run away to see some Japanese Fireworks. 1 hour of loud flaming insanity. but as the night group arrived, and got ready I got in an awesome final run.

This was the smoothest, quietest, drift package I've ever seen. none of that shaft "zing zing" sound and perfect balance. Driver was awesome too.

You never know what you see at Max One.

I'm still not sure about the DIB using the battery for chassis flex resistance. Twisting a lipo constantly seems flawed.

RED Car, White Wheels not mandatory.

Today felt like the red and white invasion. But a red car with white wheels was not really necessary, but it added to the atmosphere.

My hachi-roku samurai is looking super cool. I had just finished a battery, so I was using the "red team" to make some background.

I think you will find the result adds to the impact. Speaking of impact. Today we started running anti clockwise at Max one again. In the first battery session, I hit the wing more than ten times finding "the line" It's a bit wobbly in these pics... haha.

Part of that was due the new wheels. These are Kazama FXR +10

I do like the design.

paired with Kazama Premium tyres on o-rings and the Red Nuts.

But the 2mm narrower in track really effected the handling a lot. It became very twitchy again. So rather than playing with setup today, I simply switched back to the N model +12 on the rear.

Every time I break out the camera... I usually end up with an impromptu "photo shoot".

I really don't mind at all. It's great when I can get these group shots.

You always notice things in photographs that you don't when you are running. 

Anyway... this is probably as close as I'll get to a Team shot. The three of us OTA-R, JX-R and DRB really get it. It's superb fun when we are running in close proximity. We run the "cool" line. 

While Tak-13Bt and I have the rotary bug and usually run FC/FD bodies. Ishida san has run the same S14 for so long I can't persuade him to change. It's kind of by chance we all ended up with red and white today. 

But that's not mandatory for fun.  The Skyline also belongs to a Wednesday regular in the morning shift.

Anyway, I tried to squeeze us all in, but the lens I had on the camera was a telephoto zoom.

It just wasn't going to happen.

I had a bunch of unfinished projects today. one of them was adding the panel lines on the 86.

They are there, just hard to see. I also trimmed another 1mm off the lower lip. I'm liking the battle scars it's getting.

I alsoadded a 4th channel... Ive got it so I may as well use it. This hand wave will eventually be a F. U. out the window yee haa gesture.

but without the time to set it up correctly, I settled for a little way today.

Ive got two micro servo's in action.

Today it was used as an "I'm sorry" gesture. when I crashed at the front of the drift train, it serves as an appropriate... "gomen" Sorry Guys.

The last thing was to highlight the mufflers. but the lexan didn't totally agree with what I wanted to do.

hehe. tomorrow I'll post the action shots. there are some good ones.

Wednesday Night Live! @ MAx One

This was the scene today. Yamada-san captured this image and decided it was good enough to U-Stream.
I hope someone saw us going at it.

7 of us all together with more turning up later. but basically we were all side by side. The bar has definitely been raised at Max One. Anyone for fishing?



Imo-san captured this image just as we started streaming. This was insane fun. at one stage we had a 5 -red car drift train. it looked pretty damn cool.

Early in the day, just a few runners. I have a love/hate relationship with Velcro mounts! A lot of body adjustment today.
