Maximum Fun!

Today at Max One, I had an awesome time.  So many guys were out today and tonight, I spent 8 hours sideways.

Well almost. I always find time for some photographs. There were a lot of chasers of course and recently the Fnatz or Kunny'z JZX100 have become "THE" bodies for true JDM style. This is the FNATZ version.

Top Line "Jupiter" wheels have also become somewhat "THE" Wheel to have.

This body is indicative of the style. Some might say Chance Circuit style.

Yamada-san's new S15 also getting some action.

Tandem action.

Here are some flags I made for Max One. On days like today, 11 cars on the small track at the same time, you don't need targets for line, the car in front is the target! When there's just you and the track they can come in handy for perfecting your skills.

We set them up on the end of the track. They worked well, just like I envisioned.

Yamada-san immediately On Line and On Target.

Very awesome!

Thanks to all the guys that commented on my FD. I do appreciate it. Now to make my own bodies... Hmmm.

Also, thanks to all the guys who I ran with today... much appreciated! Some of those laps were very intense.  Drift sandwiched between 6 cars and more.

The TA-06 and DRB working pretty well considering.

More JZX Love.

More JZX Love.

More JZX Love. Do I need a JZX? This is Powervehicles D1SL car I designed.

No, I have new bodies on the way. FCs x 2 FD and 280ZX still to come.

Anyway, so much happening, I didn't report on my TA-06 so I'll do a chassis post soon.

TA-06 Tech Racing "Big Boas"

These are some additional dampers I have for the TA-06.

They are setup with different springs mainly for quick changes.

These were included in the drift spec chassis set from Tech Racing. "Big Boa" is not a snake. It's Big Bore dampers.

The drift spec ones have a unique shaft and piston setup.

On compression the piston is open but on extension, the holes are closed. Slow rebound is the result.

test soon.

Chassis Choices?

Which is the best? I'll tell you a story. I've owned 4 different drift chassis now and my conclusion is... they are all the same in the end. A modified high end drift chassis can start as anything, but today I ran with all chassis of all configurations. Every one capable of side by side, nose to tail action.

A better question is "Which is the most cost effective?" Out of the box capable of great things. Is it this RC-Art CE-RX with just a few pulleys or a new DRB only needing some knuckles.

Is it this Street Jam OTA-Zeon in all it's "heavy" colored alloy glory.

Is it this OTA-R with a central Tail Slider battery conversion? Or is something like my TA-06 with full carbon chassis conversion the best.

How about a drift package with Active Hobby full carbon drift conversion.

Or is it this close to stock "doripake" with a big GOLD BAR for weigh tune the answer.

I've stopped thinking about what's best. In Japan there are so many conversions and converted conversions that I don't even know what half of these chassis are anymore.

The driver is more essential than any chassis. Whatever you have is probably good enough. Chassis 30% , Setting is 30%, 30% is driver, 10% is that special concentration and magic to get it all to work together and quickly change the right thing to give yourself the advantage for the win or reduction for fun.

That's what we need to find.

Pan Speed FC Build Update #4

Just a small update. I've painted the "leaf" shadows and it's ready for another color. Red/orange in the reverse direction.

It's a shame a lot of this will be covered by stickers. Anyway... looking good!

TA-06 Phase 2.2 Preview

Bling Bling! TA-06 Phase 2.2 shakedown tomorrow.

These shots show the chassis at about 95% complete. I added a couple more details after this including a TRG chrome driver and some finishing touches with the antenna position and lighting connector..

The lipo sits nicely in the centre with small brackets, but I added some velcro to stop it sliding around.

removal is very easy compared to the old hidden compartment Tamiya chassis. I now have leftover Square battery holders.

I spent a little time colour coding the ball ends, plugs and other plastic pieces. I have the Tech Racing shocks to add also which have blue alloy IFS spacers too. I think it looks nice even though the colours are slightly different.

The chassis may get a full green and gold anodizing later, but for now it's blue blue blue.

Carbon graphite suspension arms are visible here.

Wiring is something I hate, but I think I managed to hide most of the wiring successfully. the ESC sits nicely in the forward area underneath the shocks. I'll get it on the scales and check corner weights soon. I think balance should be good, even if overall weight is up a little.

RC Division Sponsor Flags

Check out my new "Dual Purpose" team flags.

I saw this shot from Fuji that my friend DCD took. It gave me another idea for my diorama.

However these were originally made for targets that I'll be using to scrape the walls at Max One. I've fitted the base with Velcro, so they can be added to the carpet track walls and I've kept the wire thin to allow for some flexibility of placement.

Stay tuned for wall scraping shots from this coming Wednesday.

ps... embarrassed by these iphone pics. sorry.

Tamiya TA-06 Phase 2.2

These shots are a build in progress. RE-Xtreme RE-TA-06 CS Phase 2.2.

Phase 2.2 stands for CS 2.2x overdrive

Kazama Auto 41T front pulley relieves the need for the tensioner and brings CS up from 1.8 to 2.2
Tech Racing Front One Way Axle (3 way possible)
This item replaces the Eagle Racing item of poor quality. I've already noticed a vast improvement.

All alloy on the car is now at the desired level. (suspension mounts not pictured)

Main items include

RC Square Lower Bulkhead front
RC Square Lower Bulkhead rear
RC Square Upper Bulkhead front
RC Square Upper Bulkhead rear
RC Square Stiffener rear

Overdose front castor knuckles and steering set has been swapped onto a new chassis along with previous CS gear.

Tech Racing Carbon Drift Spec Conversion

This includes

Tech Racing 2.0mm Dry Carbon Lower Deck
Tech Racing 2.0mm Dry Carbon Upper Deck
Tech Racing 2.0mm Dry Carbon Upper Deck Stiffener
Tech Racing 3.0mm Dry Carbon Front Shock Tower (not fitted)
Tech Racing 3.0mm Dry Carbon Rear Shock Tower (not fitted)
Tech Racing Blue Aluminium Deck Supports
Tech Racing Screws and Battery stays.
Tech Racing Blue Aluminium Dampers Front (Standard) and Rear
Rear rigid drive spool and more.

The design is quite pleasing. It suits my Tsunami Spec design motto. (chassis is a very limited item)

Currently building all standard spec dampers as rear shock sets of differing spec.
Not included in the kit were the Tech Racing Blue Aluminium Shocks Front (IFS versions)

Build was very simple. Everything can be now be tensioned properly. The plastic chassis and bulkheads had some real issues revolving around screw tension.

New Overdose IFS mounts will be added upon release to complete Phase 2.2

I've since replaced the suspension arms with advice from Overdose.

Tamiya Carbon TB-Evo Graphite Long Suspension Arms
Tamiya  Blue Aluminium  Suspension Mount FF 1XC Bar
Tamiya  Blue Aluminium Suspension Mounts FR 1XC Separate
Tamiya  Blue Aluminium  Suspension Mounts RF 1XD Separate
Tamiya  Blue Aluminium  Suspension Mounts RR 1X
RC Square Blue Aluminium Suspension Spacers.

This chassis will now move to a 3/4 size Lipo Battery Power also.
I'll reveal the full spec in a few days with pics and shakedown.
Of course Keyence and Sanwa re-used

40% Square

RC Square TA-06 parts for 40% off! I like that number.

The other day I was changing the rear axle and the steel screws I have simply stripped the plastic threads.

So these were a timely purchase, although the rear one I needed was already sold out. These parts are usually 4000 each. so 2000 makes for superb quality with a reasonable price.

Need to replace the lower rear mounts and sus mounts.

So anyway, the chassis has already become almost as expensive as a full carbon DRB!
So the for sale price goes up a little each time.

I probably won't be able to resist the tech carbon chassis much longer and then it's an aluminium colour change.

I'll probably change color to Bronze or Orange.

Blue colour is a perfect match for the Overdose rear end.
