RE-Xtreme TA-06 PRO Tsunami Spec Phase 2.2 - SOLD

Here is the presentation of my amazing TA-06. Not only does it look good. It is an incredible performer.

For a begginner looking to step up, and wanting the best of the best in a single purchace. Or a Tamiya drifter who until now has only had the VDF as their only option, this chassis takes the Tamiya item and raises the bar.

When I first tried the TA-06, it was incredible with only the Overdose steering and C Hubs, But I didn't want to have a 1.3 or 1.5 FCD machine. I wanted the crazy style of 2.2. With the standard Tamiya components you can really only get to about 1.5 FCD.  

As I became familiar with the TA-06 settings which are extremely forgiving. the chassis was performing well. My initial target was asphalt. But as I began spending more and more time on Carpet. I wasn't enjoying the plastic tub of the base car.

The opportunity arose to go for this drift spec carbon chassis conversion and that changed everything, what was already great, became amazing.

The balance on this is very nice. The center of the chassis allows for a lot of different configurations. Especially with short batteries. I was using a small patch of velcro to help an already secure centre section.

Parts from Tamiya, Tech Racing, RC-Square and Overdose eventually replaced ALL components. About the only real TA-06 original parts include the gearbox housing and idler gears.  

I love the chassis design also. It's tribal, wave is ultra cool!

The dry carbon finish is awesome!  I'll finish the story here and leave you to peruse the final shots of the bare chassis. With the right components, the result is amazing.

Spaced out

Want Width... I'm getting there.. But at what cost?

If you think about hobbies and cost, then you don't enjoy it. but at some point you look back and say...OMG!

It's little things like this that add up. $15 for the ultimate locking spacer kit. 5mm + 2mm + 0.8 + 0.2 = + add mathematics...8mm

I didn't want to run the wide body cars on plastic crap anymore. I've looked at these RC Square spacers a hundred times and they've always seemed a little pricey. $15 for 2, but effectively the same as a set of tyres.

So today I finally bought them.

And the result = great! I will add another 1mm on the the front, rear already has another +1.

New Square TECHnology

 A few updates. Tech Racing Alloy Motor Mount with heat sink. Square Belt Tensioner and Kawada Low Friction Belt.

There were a couple of issues with both the RS Square tensioner and the Motor Mount. The tensioner has a raised section on the bottom. It may work with the Tamiya Chassis, but with the Tech Chassis, I needed to file some carbon away to alloy the alloy to slot in.

Lets look at the Motor Mount. Tech Racing produce this nice looking item. The TA-06 is designed to accept a fan, but I find my Keyence Luxon 7.5T doesn't raise a sweat. I don't work it too hard to warrant any upgrade. This was more to hide the plastic of the gearbox.

The slight weight gain from the heat sink is countered by removal of aluminium from the main plate. When you pick up both by hand they aren't noticibly different. However there was an issue. the hole closest to the bottom of this picture requires a countersunk screw mounted from the inside. The hole was NOT COUNTER SUNK!

Due to this I actually assembled it incorrectly initially before I realized what was wrong.

But out came the countersunk drill bit and after some redesign, it went together correctly. As you can see in the top picture, it looks great too.

as a minor point, I've installed the tech TA-06 IFS instead of the Tamiya ones. I've swapped the overdose seats onto these and they seem to behave a bit better in the chassis than the tamiya ones. Springs are still Kazama Medium for now. Soft springs don't have enough rate to accept the extra distance that the Overdose Mounts create.

TA-06 Phase 2.2 Preview

Bling Bling! TA-06 Phase 2.2 shakedown tomorrow.



These shots show the chassis at about 95% complete. I added a couple more details after this including a TRG chrome driver and some finishing touches with the antenna position and lighting connector..

The lipo sits nicely in the centre with small brackets, but I added some velcro to stop it sliding around.

removal is very easy compared to the old hidden compartment Tamiya chassis. I now have leftover Square battery holders.

I spent a little time colour coding the ball ends, plugs and other plastic pieces. I have the Tech Racing shocks to add also which have blue alloy IFS spacers too. I think it looks nice even though the colours are slightly different.

The chassis may get a full green and gold anodizing later, but for now it's blue blue blue.

Carbon graphite suspension arms are visible here.

Wiring is something I hate, but I think I managed to hide most of the wiring successfully. the ESC sits nicely in the forward area underneath the shocks. I'll get it on the scales and check corner weights soon. I think balance should be good, even if overall weight is up a little.

The design is quite pleasing. It suits my Tsunami Spec design motto. (chassis is a very limited item)

Currently building all standard spec dampers as rear shock sets of differing spec.
Not included in the kit were the Tech Racing Blue Aluminium Shocks Front (IFS versions)

Build was very simple. Everything can be now be tensioned properly. The plastic chassis and bulkheads had some real issues revolving around screw tension.

New Overdose IFS mounts will be added upon release to complete Phase 2.2

I've since replaced the suspension arms with advice from Overdose.

The other day I was changing the rear axle and the steel screws I have simply stripped the plastic threads.

So these were a timely purchase, although the rear one I needed was already sold out. These parts are usually 4000 each. so 2000 makes for superb quality with a reasonable price.

Need to replace the lower rear mounts and sus mounts.

So anyway, the chassis has already become almost as expensive as a full carbon DRB!
So the for sale price goes up a little each time.

I probably won't be able to resist the tech carbon chassis much longer and then it's an aluminium colour change.

I'll probably change color to Bronze or Orange.

Blue colour is a perfect match for the Overdose rear end.
