Max Attack - Prep and Play.

Well, I repaired a lot of stuff and did some maintenance, but as always, I forgot a few things.

But I worked on the DRB and 86 during the day.

so the first thing you notice is the vented Bonnet (AUST) / Hood (USA).  But my driver is still in shock that the mirror is missing... Craft Square mirrors aren't cheap you know.

Anyway I used some old hasegawa carbon film I had with a small weave. Some sanding should have been done... haha.

Here are the brakes taken with a real camera. As much as I hate Eagle racing, It's all you can get.

the installation requires different size bearings that allow the shaft to move outward 1mm.

This long grub screw just presses against the hub. Not ideal. I will recess and tap the hole a little in the future. I have plans to make this a fully polished DRB chassis in the future.

I've been having some intermittent issues with the receiver. (turns out the cheap driver servo's blew out.)

I also installed this extractor fan. It makes a big difference. Temps from 60 down to around 30.

 Active antenna stay.

After forgetting to tighten the rear bulkhead and the main drive shaft. there were some tense moments. haha.

The AM team at max one were going hard. Sometimes too hard.

In an attempt to slow the play... and change the line a little to the out line.

I installed my targets around the circuit. In pretty difficult spots to connect. It worked for a while.

this one in my favourite position. It's a bit dangerous. you can see how many hits this corner has taken in about a year. the 86 can hit this target with about 2 cm clear.

You can see the benefit of the 86 right here. rear wheel on the fence is a real possibility.

I'm getting so close to people, it's a bit intimidating actually.  Even I think I'm too close, but somehow the 86 clears the car in front.

The sun through the window was shining on the brakes. it's cool!

There's still a few details that aren't finished in this picture.

Body lines,
Headlight surrounds,

but these are addressed throughout the day.

Double EYE!  which is the Evil One.

The Yokomo HSV-10 GT500 1/12 scale wing is perfect.

Tako Charger

Introducing the Hitec X4 "Octopus" TAļ¼£OCHARGER!

This is a skin I made for my charger. The masses of wires coming from it makes it look like an octopus.

Oh, well. gotta have some fun.

RE-Xtreme Tsunami 86 & DRB Damage

The price of drift is high, but at least it's not as bad as On Road Racing.

This damage is a result of pushing the limit. Running Tandem and Triple across the MAX ONE Highway and going for proximity.

I think the fender slice adds character.

I'm yet to refinish the bonnet scoop. the MAX ONE off-ramp taking it's toll here.

and here.  Some wood chips still on the corner of the bonnet.

rear wing mounting holes were damaged, for now its fixed roughly, but the mount is bent now... more thinking involved...

Some small impact scratches are unavoidable at MAX ONE.

I inspected the chassis again last night and found this... OMG!

The pin had come out of the RC Square drive shaft and started eating my rear hub... haha!

It must have been like that for a few revolutions.

It took it's toll on the rest of the drive train too. broken FCD holder.

FCD is damaged also.

So a new 1.5 FCD was purchased. (DIB belt version... I should read the pack more carefully.)
I swapped a new belt onto the DRB also because the old one was fraying.

I also picked up some brakes. I'm in the mode of making things pretty before I leave Japan, so the small details I'd been putting off for a while are finding their way onto the chassis for completion.

New nuts, Antenna stay etc etc.

RE-Xtreme Tsunami 86 vs Samurai 86

Today was a bit special for me. This is kind of the culmination of my RC enjoyment right here.

I made these two bodies almost identical for a reason. Twin drift.

I always enjoy battles with Iishida-san. He is kind of my mentor, I guess. He helped me understand RC drift and pointed me in the right direction.

I wish I could understand a lot more Japanese though because my struggle with technical understanding would really benefit a lot more.

Anyway. Today I brought a new velcro mount and we stuck the Red Samurai 86 on the TA-05 OTA-R conversion chassis and went for it.

I knew it would fit because we run exactly the same wheel / camber settings.

These two 86 bodies are small and nimble. You can really get much closer than I ever have before. We did 3 batteries worth of tandem and some MAX ONE hamburger S15 sandwich action with Yamada-san. We even started to tandem the highway line.Yamada-san commented how easy it was to follow the 86. It's the extra space it creates for transitions. but actually soon you find yourself closer than ever before.

The bodies looked great together, (maybe someone has pictures) but I was enjoying this a LOT!
We also created a double loop high speed course when only 2 of us were running. Very very cool!
I had to double check sometimes, cause I was so used to the red car. I would think I was driving it.

In any case. I totally recommend the 86 as THE must have RC body. it opens up the track a lot and the extra 20mm less on each corner can create a better driving experience.

I had never cooked the tachyon before today, but I was running sooo hard, I finally achieved heat cutout.

is that the same as RC nirvana? maybe.

Anyway... It was a special day for me.

I'm leaving Japan in about a month or so, so in these last few weeks, experiences like this are really cherished.

Sometimes, I'm even a bit speechless really.

DRB - B - B - B -B

Today was a mini-meeting of sorts. An Overdose on Overdose DRBs!

My own Yokomo DRB has only the necessary Overdose mods. Front 8-8 hubs and the steering ackerman bars. Oh, and some drive shafts...

Do you like my Yokoham tyres?? hahaha.

If you want more bling you can go further. Overdose chassis of course, then the motor mount, and spur cover.

Hubs and shafts, shock conversions and front bumper weight.

There isn't anything left to change on this from the OD catalog.

A few extras like the active motor heat sink and fan. A purchase I'll be making soon.

This is over $10000 of radio control insanity. A DRB is 53000yen in Japan. with over 60000yen of upgrades to the OD spec, then add ESC, Motor, Servo and Propo.

This looks like a heap of junk.

but up close they look amazing.

Red Overdose with OD TRF Dampers & active fan

Blue Full Overdose with white ball connectors RC-Art Shocks.

Blue Overdose with T&E motor mount

RE-Xtreme RE-DRB CSG OD 1.5 (I run short battery and stock Graphite chassis with a kazama spacer)

Silver Overdose (MAX ONE)  de-anodized DRB heaven. Just needs a polish for perfection.

The clan.

Somehow I still like my black stock chassis. It's very stiff which allows the suspension to do it's thing.
